UVASIS

UVASIS is a 248-foot LED animation created for the PECO Crown Lights at 2301 Market Street in Philadelphia, its custom digital sequence animating one of the city’s most prominent architectural facades across the Philadelphia night sky as part of Art in the Air, a public digital art program at the intersection of art, science, and technology.

• Presented as part of Art in the Air, a program developed through a partnership between PECO and Breadboard, a program of the University City Science Center, UVASIS was displayed on the PECO Crown Lights each Friday evening from 5pm to midnight, reaching thousands of viewers across Center City Philadelphia.
• The PECO Crown Lights span 248 feet across the facade of the modernist PECO Building at 2301 Market Street, one of Philadelphia’s most recognizable landmarks, making UVASIS one of the largest-scale digital public art commissions of Amorós’s career in terms of architectural footprint.
• UVASIS marks Amorós’s only major digital animation commission to date, demonstrating the breadth of her practice beyond physical sculpture and her command of light as a medium across both material and purely digital forms.
• The work sits within a significant moment in Amorós’s career, presented the same year as her commissions at the FLAG Art Foundation in New York, the Wereldmuseum in Rotterdam, and the 21c Museum Hotel in Cincinnati, affirming the global reach and institutional range of her practice at that moment.
