The visual centerpiece for the event was a light sculpture installation entitled, “Golden Connection,” by the Peruvian artist \u003Ca href=\"\u002Flight-sculpture-artist-biography\u002F\">Grimanesa Amorós\u003C\u002Fa>. The light sculptures consisted of a brilliant, wispy mass of lights, suspended in the air. Amorós favors light in her sculptures because it “creates presence without physicality.”\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n \r\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">The soiree celebrated the fair and three art world players: German photographer \u003Cstrong>Andreas Gursky\u003C\u002Fstrong> was the recipient of The “Annual International Artist” Award; \u003Cstrong>Larry Gagosian\u003C\u002Fstrong> was presented with The “Contemporary Art Contribution” Award; and curator \u003Cstrong>Hans Ulrich Obrist\u003C\u002Fstrong> was honored with the award for “Contribution To the Art Community For the Year.”\u003C\u002Fspan>\u003C\u002Fp>\r\n \r\n\u003Cp style=\"text-align: justify;\">\u003Cspan style=\"font-family: helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;\">\u003Cem>Grimanesa Amorós is interdisciplinary in every sense of the word. Her influences include social history, scientific research, and critical theory and her mediums of choice are video, sculpture, and light. Amorós strives to enlighten the understanding of one’s identity and community through the intersection of art, modern technology and the ways in which they connect to ancient divinity.
