LOTUS is a 9-foot light sculpture created for an exclusive Hennessy Paradis Impérial tasting event in the penthouse of The Miami Beach EDITION during Art Basel Miami Beach 2016, its luminous form drawing on the lotus flower’s ancient symbolism of enlightenment, purity, and abundance to create an immersive setting where precision in art and precision in cognac-making became a single shared experience.
- Commissioned by Hennessy and Quintessentially for an intimate gathering of select cognac connoisseurs at The Miami Beach EDITION during Art Basel week, LOTUS placed Amorós’s practice within one of the art world’s most culturally concentrated moments of the year alongside one of France’s most storied luxury Maisons.
- Amorós first encountered the lotus flower in Shanghai, immediately captivated by its movement and form, and has since returned to it across multiple commissions as the botanical embodiment of her core artistic principle: the idea of balance as a spiritual and perceptual anchor in relation to nature and landscape.
- The pairing of LOTUS with Hennessy Paradis Impérial drew on a shared vocabulary of precision, with Amorós describing the evening as a romance with the unknown and noting that the extreme precision required of her lighting sequence mirrored the painstaking craft behind one of the world’s most refined cognacs.
- LOTUS at Art Basel Miami Beach preceded LOTUS at Richard Taittinger Gallery (2022) and SOLAR SANCTUARY at The Plaza (2025), establishing the lotus as one of the most sustained and significant recurring forms across Amorós’s entire body of work.
The first time I saw a lotus flower, known to be a source of enlightenment, purity and abundance, was in Shanghai. Immediately, I was mesmerized by its beauty, shape and movement. The idea of balance is the spiritual principle anchored in my work, and a determining factor for my perspective and perception of nature and landscape – being present and active.
